KATHERINA JUNG

Shadows help to define reality. They also shape and add texture fantasy. They are an intrinsic element of beauty, impacting form, composition, and mood.

Catch Your Dreams Before They Fade Away.

Beautiful shadows make Katherina Jung photos extraordinary. Surreal and powerful, the images evoke her daydreams and childhood fairytale memories. They are deep and dark, yet ethereal and light, in beautiful balance.

I’m Hungry For You My Love.

Highly conceptual and expertly styled, each of Jung’s images fuses the lightness and whimsy of fairytales with their darker complexities, in beautiful counterbalance.

Doubt by Katherina Jung.

While Jung is only 22 years old, and has only been working with photography for a little over a year, she has developed a deep sense mood in her work, largely in how she harnesses the power of shadow.

Cause I Care by Katherina Jung.

We feel as though we are getting a glimpse into Jung’s tender process of self-discovery, as she emerges from her own inner shadows and begins to shine.

Salvation by Katherina Jung.

Many of Jung’s visual ideas spring directly from her daydreams or childhood memories of fairy tales.

Influences by Katherina Jung.

Jung typically spends a whole week working on a single image. While she’s strongly opposed to retouching the models themselves, she uses Photoshop to create the surreal background or compositional effects seen in most of her images.

Cosmic Love by Katherina Jung.

Most of her characters appear in a state of deep inner-reflection and communion with nature, soaked in rich shadow, laced with light, as if they’ve been observed precisely at a moment of self-actualization.

Emotions - Mourning by Katherina Jung.

Jung is based in her hometown of Hermeskeil, Germany. See more of her work here.
