NATURAL SWIMMING POOLS

Pools without chemicals are even more beautiful! Especially when they are totally filtered by flowers, plants and tiny living things. They are totally possible. You can get all of the benefits of swimming in a clean swimming pool combined with the incredible beauty of a completely chemical-free natural living pond with a Natural Swimming Pool (aka Bio Pool, aka Swim Pond).

In a Natural Swimming Pool (NSP), no chemicals or devices are used to disinfect or sterilize the water. That means no chlorine, no bromine, no pH adjusters, no algaecides, no oxidizers, no shocks, and no other toxic junk assaults your body or the environment. All cleansing takes place by natural biological processes.

NSPs function on the scientific principles found in limnology, the study of fresh inland waters (e.g., ponds, lakes, streams and rivers). Wetland processes that naturally purify and clarify fresh and brackish water involve many different species of beneficial microbes, beneficial bacteria, and aquatic plants. 

By employing biomimicry, operating a wetland-like ecosystem, NSPs follow similar natural biological cycles, using beneficial microbes and beneficial bacteria to convert detritus and impurities in the water into nitrates that become food for the carefully selected native and adaptive aquatic plants.

NSP plants effectively out-compete (starve out) algae and undesired microbes, leaving pool water sweet and clear. All of this is powered using only the energy equivalent of a 100-Watt light bulb.

NSPs are designed with two vessels, one for swimming and one for purifying the water. The swimming zone is physically separated from the water garden purifying zone. Both zones are beautiful.

Although they are set within natural landscapes, vs decking, NSP water is contained in a vessel that isolates it from groundwater and from surface water runoff.

NSPs are available both in traditional pool shapes and naturalistic pond shapes. Ranging from plunge pools to full exercise lap length pools and larger, an NSP can make any swimming experience a pure joy.
