Every season is beautiful, especially to a landscape photographer. But autumn offers the most vibrant and varied color palettes and, perhaps, the most contrasting drama. We are featuring the autumn landscapes of 2 photographers today that we especially love, Charlie Waite and Patrick Zephyr. Check them out below.

PATRICK PACHECO ZEPHYR

Fall River, Massachusetts, is now the nexus for photographer Patrick Pacheco Zephyr’s love affair with nature and landscape. His passion was originally sparked when he was a child growing up there, searching for amphibians, reptiles and insects and exploring other hidden natural treasures.

His passion for photography was sparked 14 years ago during a 3 month canoeing expedition in a remote region of the Northwest Territories of Canada.

While he has traveled around the world, taking beautiful landscape photos, his favorite subjects are found each morning, as he explores his own backyard. Most were captured within 30 miles of his MA home.

Autumn delivers so many opportunities for Zephyr. “My favorite times of day to photograph are dawn and dusk when night and day transform,” he explains. “I also, enjoy photographing just after a storm when the forest is still and saturated with color.”

“My passion is not my camera, but my subjects; flora, fauna, landscape and light. My photographic goal is to be as true to my subject as possible,” says Zephyr. “I prefer to find the magic in nature versus creating it on my computer.”

If you are inspired, check out Zephyr’s landscape photography workshops, which emphasize manual exposure image capture. He teaches how to "see what the camera sees."

CHARLIE WAITE

Light and Land are what British photographer Charlie Waite cares about most. And it is his way of capturing their beauty that has earned him recognition and admiration as one of the world’s leading landscape photographers.

As autumn light casts its long rays and shadows on fields, forests, and pathways, Waite scouts and waits for the perfect expression of this season’s artistry.

Waite is noted for his "painterly" approach in using light and shade, as well as for his square format images using a 6x6 Hasselblad.

Waite’s fascination with light began during his early career in theatrical lighting and design. He carried it through his explorations of the world around him, particularly near his home in Dorset, England.

His photos tap into the serenity and calm of the land as it winds down its summer production and hunkers down for winter.

With numerous prestigious awards to his credit, and one-man exhibitions around the world, Waite is also sought after for his lectures and workshops. He is the owner and founder of Light and Land, Europe’s leading photographic workshop and tour company, dedicated to inspiring photographers and improving their photography.
