HITACHI SEASIDE PARK

While every place on the planet goes through its own seasonal transitions, renewing its landscapes and life forms as it goes, Hitachi Seaside Park, in Ibaraki, Japan, is perhaps the most dramatic illustration of beautiful renewal.

Each season at Hitachi presents an embarrassment of riches. Each delivers a stunning display of color and form.

Covering an area of 350 hectares, Hitachi Park is located along the Pacific Coast of Japan. Miharashi Hill is the famous slope the sports the most floral drama.

You might be tempted to say that springtime is the most beautiful time because it is the most obvious symbol of renewal -- and because the landscape sprouts a lush blanket of the most delicate pale blue blossoms.

Over 4.5 million translucent baby blue-eyes flowers (Nemophila) soak up the sun under a big clear blue sky. Spring here also brings over a million daffodils,170 varieties of tulips, and more.

Summer follows with its own show of poppies, roses, and sunflowers.

Cool green mounds of cypress kochia balls offer sculpted texture as they refresh our spirit.

Cosmos dance as the land transitions to autumn.

We love to see the kochia turn from green to pale red as autumn approaches.

And once in full swing, the kochia balls go all out vibrant red.

There are even more ways to renew your spirit at Hitachi Seaside Park, beyond the flowers. Check out the cycling trails and the charming Pleasure Garden amusement park with an old-fashioned Ferris wheel. The Seaside Train is a lovely way to tour the park.
