1. BANGKOK TREE HOUSE RESORT -- BANGKOK, THAILAND

Bangkok Tree House Resort is a beautiful eco-friendly escape just outside the bustle of central Bangkok. Designed by Jirayu (Joey) Tulyanond to be both luxurious and sustainable, the resort features private nests that integrate perfectly into the forest.

Stay in a “View With a Room,” an open air 3-level bedroom perched in the treetops, surrounded by its own self-purifying swimming pool. Enjoy the outdoor shower and marvel at the glass bathroom floors, which show off the rushing river below.

The resort rocks many sustainability features, including solar and wind powered LED lighting, solar cookers, rainwater harvesting. Floors, walls, and ceilings are built from reclaimed wood and bamboo. The structures are insulated with discarded juice cartons.

2. JUMEIRAH VITTAVELI -- SOUTH MALÉ ATOLL, MALDIVES

The luxurious Jumeirah Vittaveli, located on the sandy beaches of the Maldives, is the perfect place to escape and pamper yourself, while helping the planet.

Each simply, yet elegantly adorned villa has a private pool, with access to the beach or lagoon. The organic spa offers beautiful escapes for mind and body. Dine on local catch plucked fresh from the sparkling turquoise waters.

Venture out to explore the healthiest and most abundant House-Reefs in the South Malé Atoll, ablaze with color, with old shipwrecks for further interest and intrigue.

Jumeirah Vittaveli uses a heat recovery system, an Eco Pure water treatment system, and an in-house bottling plant, to keep its footprint light. The resort proudly holds their Green Globe Certification (GGC), the premier worldwide sustainability stamp for the tourism industry.

3. Songjiang InterContinental Hotel -- SHANGHAI, CHINA

Soon, you can escape to the Songjiang InterContinental Hotel, a new 5-star 19-story eco-resort currently under construction near Shanghai. It is built into the side of a giant quarry, with massive waterfalls tumbling down into an artificial lake below, for added drama.

The beautiful waveform architecture blends right into the landscape, all with important sustainable features, such as a gorgeous green roof. It relies solely on solar and geothermal energy.

Some of the suites face an incredible 10 meter deep aquarium. And two floors of rooms are submerged beneath the water!

4. LAPA RIOS ECOLODGE -- COSTA RICA

Lapa Rios Ecolodge is located on a private nature reserve, which contains the last remaining 1,000 acres of Central American lowland tropical rainforest. It offers a beautiful escape and respite.

There are 16 gorgeous bungalows, constructed of bamboo and sustainable wood, built on natural ridges in the forest. The views are spectacular! With open-air rooms and private decks with hammocks and outdoor showers, you’ll be at one with nature.

Lapa Rios was the first hotel to receive five-leaf status from the Costa Rica Tourism Board’s Certification for Sustainable Tourism.

5. AMANERA -- DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

Escape to Amanera, a new eco-resort in the Dominican Republic, overlooking the 7-mile long pristine Playa Grande Beach, with 2,000 acres of untouched jungles and the regal Cordillera Septentrional mountain range standing by.

Amanera means “water,” in Taíno, derived from the Sanskrit word for “peace.” It is fitting, as water is a crucial component of the resort’s design. All 25 casitas were built using locally sourced materials and decorated with locally produced artwork. They all feature sustainable green rooftops, many with private gardens and pools.

6. LLAO LLAO BARILOCHE -- PATAGONIA, ARGENTINA

Escape to Patagonia, Argentina in eco-friendly style!

Llao Llao Bariloche, one of the Leading Hotels of the World, is a stately mountain lodge, perched atop a hill in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, at the foot of the Andes. Gaze out at Lake Moreno and Lake Nahuel from your window. Ogle at the Tronador Glacier.

Get out for a hike or bike through the mountains, raft or canoe the Manso River. Then come back to rustic luxury.

The grand building was designed by architect Alejandro Bustillo in 1939, made of locally-sourced stone, concrete and wood. This resort offers a carbon-neutral travel option. It also supports Sustainable Travel International.

7. BANYAN TREE HOTEL AND RESORT -- SEYCHELLES

Get lost in some of the world’s most breathtaking beaches and tropical forests at The Banyan Tree Hotel & Resort, in the Seychelles.

The 60 breezy pool villas overlook the stunning Indian Ocean, where you can dive among some of the best coral reefs. Adventure out  to see the natural wonders of the land, where over 46% of the country is designated as a nature preserve.

Make sure you visit nearby Vallée de Mai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When this area was first discovered by General Charles George Gordon, in 1881, he believed it was the original Garden of Eden.

Banyan Tree Resorts does its part to help keep it beautiful by consistently working toward saving the Hawksbill turtle and aiding in beach conservation efforts.

8. MAGIC MOUNTAIN LODGE -- PATAGONIA, CHILE

If you’ve always wanted to visit Middle Earth, the Magic Mountain Lodge is your dream resort. Complete with a rope bridge and a volcanic water spout, this playful escape is positively dreamy.

This extraordinary place is located in the 600 square km Huilo-Huilo Biological Reserve in northern Chile's Patagonia, which is dedicated to preserving the biodiversity and fauna of the region.

The lodge is a base camp for eco-tourists visiting the reserve. Join them in their search to see the local pumas and explore beautiful waterfalls.

9. SONEVA KIRI -- KOH KOOD, THAILAND

See the world from above for a few days at Soneva Kiri, a 6-star destination in Koh Kood, Thailand.

One of the most incredible parts about this tropical escape is the restaurant perched in the trees. You’ll feel like you’re dining in a bird’s nest!

The mini structures that make up this resort are made of local sustainable materials such as bamboo. Soneva Kiri is also an experimental showcase of an array of environmental technologies, including both state-of-the-art inventions and indigenous practices.
