ARE IDEAS MORE BEAUTIFUL IN A BEAUTIFUL WORK SPACE?

Alone in a stark cubicle. With a dozen people seaside on a Caribbean island. Just two of many beautiful possibilities for inspiring workspaces reported on LinkedIn as part of the feature, “Where I Work.”

Steve Rubel, Chief Content Strategist for Edelman, a global public relations firm, works best in a relatively barren “box” so he can concentrate on the personality of job to be done. Richard Branson, founder and chairman of Virgin Group, conducts meetings “swimming in tea” on the shores of Virgin-owned Necker Island.

Some, like Craigslist and Craig Connects founder, Craig Newmark, find balance among sparseness, humor, and nature’s glory with a simple desk, Simpsons iconography, and a view multi-colored hummingbirds sipping nectar outside his office window.

Here, at the BeautifulNow office, we’re grateful to have a garden. It enhances our view and our viewpoint. It’s not hard to get inspired, take a breather, and ponder.

Just looking out the window, as a diversion from our computers, or as a backdrop to a phone conversation, tempers and shapes our mindset. We watch the changing light and seasons. It keeps us grounded in ways an open, plain big box or an isolating high rise never could.

Of course, we sit, have meetings, eat our lunch, and work outside whenever possible... whether bundled up in winter, or coated with SPF100, or even under a light drizzle.

Not everyone likes peace, tranquility, and natural splendor. James Citrin, Senior Director at Spencer Stuart, likes to work up a sweat while he’s working. So, of course his desk is a mahogany-topped treadmill.

But best-selling business author Colin Shaw works best in the air so he’s free from phone calls and inspired by the view out the plane’s windows. We get that. Some of our best ideas happen above the clouds.
