SHARON CORE - YANCEY RICHARDSON
Looking back over a year of art exhibitions in our quest for Best of 2020, we've gathered some of our favorites from The Armory Show, New York City’s premier art fair. It features some of the world’s most important 20th- and 21st-century art, represented by leading international galleries. This annual show has served as a nexus for the art world since its founding in 1994, where top collectors come to satisfy their passions.
Today, we present selected works by photographer Sharon Core, represented by Yancey Richardson Gallery.
Check them out below.

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? The answer is “yes,” as still life photos by Sharon Core flip the script on us, recreating paintings that pretend to be photos.
The images in “Early American,” Core’s collection of still life images featuring luscious, voluptuous heirloom fruits, recreate paintings by early 19th-century American still life painter Raphaelle Peale. They are remarkable in their uncanny attention to detail, from the lighting to the color, textures and, of course the composition.

Core’s photo recreation of artist Wayne Thiebaud’s geometric structured paintings of cake and food. Core’s “1606-1907” series explores three centuries of flower painting.
The “Understory” series was inspired by the work of 17th century Dutch painter Otto Marseus van Schriek.

Core is not merely the photographer, she creates the still lifes and their components. She grew the heirloom fruits and flowers. She baked the cakes.
The photos are so true to their source subject matter that they are sometimes hard to distinguish from the originals.
