FLIGHTS OF CHERRY BLOSSOM FANCY

DANILO DUNGO

Cherry blossoms are beautiful from any angle, up close and in landscape view. And now, photographer Danilo Dungo gives us an entirely new perspective with his aerial shots of cherry blossom bliss.

Using a DJI Phantom drone, Dungo shoots the over Inokashira Park, in Tokyo. From above, the cherry blossoms look like pink and white micro-confetti.

Taken from the higher ranges of his drone altitudes, the pastel petals look like tiny grains of pollen.

When the petals fall, they thickly carpet the Park’s grounds as well as the surfaces of Inokashira Pond and the Kanda River.

The Nanai Bridge, which crosses the pond near the center, is a beautiful ground level vantage point. On the west side of the park, the flowering plum grove creates its own spring show.

Also known as "Inokashira Imperial Grant Park," the park was considered a gift from Emperor Taishō to the general public in 1913. Dungo shoots there in early morning hours, partially to avoid crowds, and partially to avoid getting hassled by Tokyo’s anti-drone police.

Dungo captures remarkable cherry blossom images from ground level positions as well.

He even gets them to show off their beauty from below, looking up.
