FREESTYLING AWESOMENESS: LORENZ HOLDER
LORENZ HOLDER
Every photograph captures a single moment -- it snatches a freeze frame out of the river of life. Action photos grab a more energized piece of the continuum.
Photographer Lorenz Holder captures the most beautiful moments as he contrasts the powerful action of athletes, stopped for fraction of a second, against a still landscape.
Holder likes to show the viewers the beauty of the environment where athletes perform.
“I’m a huge fan of landscape and architectural photography and I try to combine those genres with action sport.”
The location of each shot is a major element of each of Holder’s images. It is part of the moment each athlete reaches a pinnacle.
Holder grew up in Munich, close to the Bavarian mountains, which have always played a major role in his life. He was a semi-professional snowboarder until he sustained a serious back injury.
The injuries knocked Holder out of boarding for a whole year. “It was in that time that I discovered the pleasure of photography,” he tells us.
Holder became fascinated by how a whole story could be told in just one small moment caught on film.
Holder recently won Grand Prize in prestigious photo contest Red Bull Illume 2016 for “Masterpiece by Yodobashi,” his incredible photo of a stunt biker in a beautiful moment atop a semi-circular bridge in Koblenz, Germany. It was one of over 35,000 entries.
Holder currently works as a staff photographer for Nitro Snowboards.
