OCEAN CONSERVANCY PHOTO AWARDS

Ocean Conservancy is working to protect the ocean from today’s greatest global challenges.

Our ocean faces many threats like the onslaught of ocean trash, overfishing and ocean acidification. Ocean Conservancy is developing innovative solutions to save our ocean.

Each year, the Ocean Conservancy hosts a photo contest, featuring photos that tell the stories of the oceans.  The beautiful (and sometimes heartbreaking) images captured, are truly compelling.

This year, the panel of judges included Paul Bardo, Ben Hicks, Senator Angus S. King Jr., Senator Patrick Leahy and Christopher Michel.

The images are quite dramatic. One winning photo was taken in Ha’apai, Tonga, as stand up paddle boarders were out exploring the shallow reefs at sunset. Another features a baby loggerhead sea turtle fighting its way through the thick sargassum seaweed as it heads to the sea. A sea lion portrait reveals the consequences of fishing line strangulation. A diver descends through the entrance of the underwater Swallows Cave. A Spanish Shawl nudibranch, looks like underwater fireworks.

Your gift can help save our ocean. Meanwhile, check out these amazing award-winning photos below.
