BEAUTIFUL FLAMING COCKTAILS = BEAUTIFUL ENERGY NOW
Beautiful cocktails can serve up beautiful energy to warm up your mood -- especially when they are on fire!
New York City based food & drink writer and bartender Dan Q. Dao conducted an extensive survey of flaming drinks served up at a number of creative bars across the US. We are featuring a few of our favorites below. Plus a mind-blowing “Flaming Lamborghini!”
ANISE MONK -- FAITH & FLOWER
Faith & Flower, a contemporary Los Angeles restaurant located in the WaterMarke Tower in DTLA’s South Park district, has a cocktail program that celebrates the drinking cultures of Gilded Age & Roaring Twenties. They specialize in the Russian “pyro” style of igniting, capturing and inhaling the fumes from absinthe.
Faith & Flower bartender “Darwin Pornel’s Anise Monk,” sets a mix of absinthe, Pernod, Frangelico, cinnamon, cream, and mint ablaze, as just one of their many pyro cocktail offerings.
TIKI TORCH -- BEELMAN’S PUB
The “Tiki Torch” cocktail at Beelman’s Pub, in Los Angeles, flames a blend of Campari and overproof rum by topping it with a cinnamon-dusted lime wedge that is set on fire. Fireworks happen right before your eyes, as well as on your tongue!
GOLDEN FANG --DEATH & CO
Tyson Buhler, the flame-loving bartender at Death & Co, a New York contemporary craft cocktail institution, created the flaming “Golden Fang.”
To make it, he builds a fire with 2 types of gin (Perry’s Tot and St. George Dry Rye Gin), lime and orange juices, then adds ginger, passion fruit, and vanilla syrups, and cardamom bitters.
He pours it into a tiki vessel, tops it with an orchid, then sprinkles it with cinnamon, which he ignites to produce a spicy, toasted aroma.
ROOT BEER MINT JULEP -- GREY LADY
One way to use fire to a delicious end is to flame-toast a marshmallow. Grey Lady, a New England–style oyster and cocktail bar in New York City, does just that to top its “Root Beer Mint Julep.”
Made with Galliano, crème de noyaux, crème de menthe, and root beer bitters, the cocktail is hit with a mini blowtorch upon serving.
SOCIAL BANDIT -- ANNEX AT GREENRIVER
Mixologist Julia Momose, of Annex at Greenriver, in Chicago, concocts the “Social Bandit” with rum, tequila, mezcal, Mistelle de Framboise, vanilla, and smoked black peppercorn. She then sprays it with absinthe and lights it up! What a beautiful way to get lit!

FLAMING LAMBORGHINI
A fired-up cocktail, named after a fired-up car, the “Flaming Lamborghini” is a spectacle to behold and a pyromaniac’s dream to experience. It’s a racy mix of Sambuca, Blue Curaçao, Irish Cream, and coffee liqueur and pours it over a stack of cocktail glasses while igniting the flow.
Sip at your own risk from the flaming cascade. Like its auto namesake, it’s an over-the-top thrill!
