TRULY AMAZING DOODLE ART NOW
All doodles are works of art in their own right. But today, we are featuring a new sampling of doodle masterpieces. From the incredibly intricate composite doodles of a child prodigy, to the painstaking fine lines that form a carpet weave, to psychedelic departures, check out these wonderful doodle works.
DUSAN KRTOLICA
We imagine that most people start doodling when they are kids. But this kid is already a doodle master.
Dusan Krtolica was born in Belgrade and has been doodling since he was 3 and attending art school since he was 4. By the time he was 8, he already had a national exhibition under his child-sized belt.
He loves doodling animals and plants, in particular. He wants to be a zoologist when he grows up.
Krtolica’s doodles aren’t just cool looking, they are anatomically correct renderings of flora and fauna. You can discover all sorts of treasures as you look more deeply. And you can get lost in his beautiful doodle drift.
At her recent solo show in Dubai, entitled, “The Pleasure in Boredom,” Iranian artist Nargess Hashemi unveiled a new set of drawings that are a departure from her normal figurative works -- they are doodles.
Unlike the organic flowing shapes that many doodles employ, Hashemi’s doodles are complex and tightly drawn, with small intricate ballpoint pen lines inside the 1mm x 1mm squares of graph paper.
Some of Hashemi’s pieces resemble Oriental rugs, with her pen strokes mimicking the warp and weft of handmade Persian carpet weavings. They extend to multiple sheets of paper, seamlessly.
The title of the exhibition references an essay by E.H. Gombrich, in which the art historian examines the psychology and art of doodling.
Take a video tour of Hashemi’s show to get closer to her doodles.
KERBY ROSANES
Kerby Rosanes has been drawing for as long as he can remember. He never had any formal art training, but he began by drawing mini portraits of his schoolmates, moved on to copying Anime characters, and then began to compete in cartooning contests.
Rosanes only recently began to doodle. Now, this 22-year old Filipino artist combines spontaneous doodling with more serious illustration to create intricate pieces that are pretty mind-blowing.
Look carefully at his pieces to see what you can find. His doodles are whimsical narratives -- some with messages related to his passions, like protecting the environment.
It takes Rosanes hours to produce even a small doodle, but some of his biggest doodles took three months to complete.
WATCHA MCCALL IT
Whatcha McCall It is blog run by an art teacher named McCall. We found some beautiful doodles created by some of her students as well as herself. We love this colorful scalloped doodle. It’s a dalliance in color and fluidity. It’s one worth framing.
Today I thought I'd share a quick flashback of this last year at the Boys and Girl Club as an Art Coordinator.
John Shey is an artist on a mission to travel the universe, heal the world, find love and spread it all around. And while he’s at it, he is creating some super-fresh doodles along the way. This one is a joy, as rigid repetitive black and white patterns give way to a breakthrough of bright color and frenzy. “Help! I can’t control the pencil” is obviously a lie! ;)
